The second largest institution of its kind in Poland
The Olsztyn Planetarium, with a 15-metre diameter dome and a 200-seat auditorium, is the second largest facility of its kind in Poland. The largest is the Silesian Planetarium in Chorzów. But it is the planetarium in Olsztyn that is a kind of monument, built in honour of Nicolaus Copernicus and opened on the 500th anniversary of his birth: 19 February 1973. It is also one of the most modern establishments of this type in Europe. However, this did not prevent its creators from placing reconstructed measuring instruments of the famous astronomer in it. They are part of the permanent exhibition.
